Crime Scene

20120123-085934.jpg

This is the scene of the crime no one is actively investigating. There is a small chance that someone is passively looking into it, but all signs point to a general disinterest.

What we know:

Who: someone

When: sometime between December 25th and January 1st

How: used something to break through the back door of the church’s rented space

What: one door: damaged; one vintage video projector: missing; some cables: missing.

Motive: unclear

Repercussions: must use songbooks during church services, lengthy administrative process with police, locksmith, insurance specialist, and insurance representative.

Ski John Ski

20120119-160540.jpg

My friend John and I headed to the slopes yesterday. Although the scenery has faded away from our minds, our bodies are quick to remind us of our adventure.

John was my first skiing apprentice. He was the first to study and apply the Jon technique. As it was my first teacher / apprentice experience on skis, I learned a few things.

Advise your student to purchase the emergency rescue insurance.

Plan frequent breaks for espresso and hot chocolate in the sun.

Favor the green runs, but insist on the blues. Unlike in the world of economics, a skier should always be attempting runs that are just beyond his experience and abilities.

Pack snacks that are high in proteins and magnesium. Don’t pack bananas.

Favor the slopes that are closest to the car at the end of the day, before talks of fatigue and Jello legs commence.

Thanks for the memories John. I hope your knee heals soon!

Childcare

A wardrobe malfunction was inevitable today. Inescapable even. Agnès’ 12 hour shift in the gynecology ward meant that Léo and Daphné would be sailing the Daddy ship, for better or for worse.

The most dramatic difference between one kid and two is encountered while flying solo. I’m talking about being outnumbered of course.

Fortunately I have home field advantage and a little thing called Fast Trains DVD. What’s more, Daphné stays where I place her. Daphné stay! Thank you.

Oui Oui

Mommy heads off to work, Daphné sleeps and Léo gets to watch Oui Oui because he was nice to his nanny.

Today the Hegners got back on the wagon… and it’s off to the races!

Capturing Bryan

20120103-170742.jpg

Bryan Chapell travels from magnetic mini-DV tape across a wire connected to my computer. From there he continues his journey across another wire to the Drobo storage robot that lives like a troll under the desk.

I’ve got him now. Bryan is mine. He can’t get away.

The Geneva Bible Institute is interested in using Bryan and his 2011 Easter sermon to teach French laymen how to preach. In a landscape of bad sermons, this is a good idea. Unfortunately Bryan preaches in English.

In transferring the three angles of Bryan to the Troll’s lair, I’ve passively listened to his sermon just as many times. In my passive analysis, He did very well.

I’d go as far as saying that I’ve never heard someone do so well in an instantaneous translation setting. Way better than Philip Yancey and Brian McLaren.

The most memorable part comes through a question : if you are dead and Christ is alive in you, who are you? Or, si tu es mort et Christ vie en toi, qui es-tu?

The most effective and memorable bi-lingual communication is the simplest. A great day for the cause of simplicity! Well done Bryan!
