… revisited

R(ER)eminiscence

Ahh RER D my old friend and nemesis. Your many years of suburban Paris shuttling activities have not been good to you.

Your fading seat fabric, intimidating odors and scratched windows tell of the abuse and neglect that you have endured at the hands of the heartless Parisians.

My pity is sincere though short-lasting as you remind me of your untimeliness, your crowded cabins, and your cold forgetfulness.

Had I been a more worthy and responsible commuter, perhaps our reunion would have tasted sweeter for both you and I.

Fare well.

Building Tomorrow

20120412-182853.jpg

Big summit meetings on Skype make my limited times with Léo especially electric… meaning that imitation Duplo structures are short lived. Electrified Léo thrives on wrestling and laughter.

By nature, summit meetings are designed to evaluate, rethink and restructure. I think parents with young kids make ideal summit participants… their whole life revolves around these activities.

If only they could find time for summiting, we would be well on our way to defeating poverty, saving the environment and mobilizing for the great commission.

Oh well…

The Call

20120407-221227.jpg

It happens right around Easter. The valley starts to seem crowded and bland. The snow has retreated from all but the highest alpine passes. The mountain calls for us.

(This is the view from the small village of Sommet d’Andey (1100m) looking out on Faucigny towards the Geneva Bassin. St Pierre is on the left, Bonneville is on the right, Lake Geneva is at the end of the valley.)

White(ish) box

Léo tickles some keys connected to some very fine hammers. This time, the box was loved. This time, the truck was rented, the drive was made, the money was paid, hands were shook and help was given (thanks Steve, Moussa, Steve, Eric, and Olivier).

This time the Hegners have music!

Exporting my woes

20120328-222537.jpg

Ahh export window, my enemy, my friend. My frenemy? You are the bane of video production… wait… yes, the very absolute bane.

It is late, my eyes are drooping, my mind is slowing. Never has the progress bar moved so slow. I turned off Safari and iCal, what more do you want? Surely not Skype! Argh!
